Moroccan Lentil Soup Recipe
In this episode of CookingWithAlia, Alia shows you how to make a traditional Moroccan lentil soup that is both comforting and satisfying. Lentils are a nutritious and versatile ingredient, and when prepared Moroccan style, they bring a unique depth of flavor to the dish.
To make this delicious soup, you will need brown lentils that have been soaked in water overnight to ensure they cook easily. Other ingredients include parsley for freshness, olive oil for richness, onion for added texture, tomato for a tangy twist, as well as paprika, salt, and pepper to enhance the flavors.
To start, grate the pulp of the tomato using a grater and discard the skin. Finely chop the parsley and onion. Drain the soaked lentils and set aside. In a large pot, heat olive oil and sauté the chopped onion, grated tomato, and lentils. Mix well and add the chopped parsley. Season with paprika, salt, and pepper, and cook for about 10 minutes.
Next, add boiling water to the pot, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. After 30 minutes, taste the soup and adjust the seasoning if needed. If the lentils require more cooking, continue to simmer until tender.
Once done, serve the Moroccan lentil soup hot in a bowl. You can enjoy it with a side of bread or simply savor it with a spoon. The flavors of this dish are so inviting that it will surely leave you craving for more. Bon appétit!
